On September 8th and 9th, freshman Skylee Shin competed in the South Florida PGA Junior Tour which was held on the Red Tiger course at Trump National. She fired back-to-back rounds of even par to win the event by an impressive 6 strokes.

How did you feel while you were playing?

I felt pretty good. I was nervous at first because there were a lot of girls playing but I was pretty confident about myself during the middle of the round. I felt really good about it and I had a lot of fun.

Is that the first tournament you have won?

I have been playing golf for about nine years now and I???ve won about three hundred competitions. That???s how many trophies I have, about three hundred and twenty something.

How much do you practice golf?

I often practice golf on the weekends for about 11 hours. During school days I practice from 4 to at least 8 o???clock. ??

Why did you start playing golf?

I started playing golf because my grandfather used to play golf with me when I was about four years old. My parents used to work so he would go out with me and play golf with me. He was the one who motivated me to play golf ever since I was four.

Where are you from?

I am from Denver, Colorado, I was born there and moved here six years ago. My parents are from South Korea. ??

What school did you go to before you came to DSA?

Before I came to DSA I was homeschooled for about a year. Before being homeschooled, I went to Doral Academy.

How do you like DSA?

DSA is a really good school. I was nervous at first but it???s been a few months now. Now I feel pretty good here. I have made a lot of new friends, the coaches are good, I love my team, and academically it is really good. I love it here!

What improvements have you seen in golf since coming to DSA?

My mental game has changed a lot. On the course I don???t feel as nervous as I used to feel before. I feel a lot more confident than I used to feel before with Coach giving me motivation.

Do you plan on playing more competitive golf in the future?

In the future I see myself going into a PGA which is the professional golf you see on TV. I hope to make it there one day.

Could you beat Mr. Kirchoff in a round of golf?

I could definitely beat Mr. Kirchoff for sure.
