How is your college experience at Florida International University going???
FIU has been a great institution where I have had the opportunity to become involved on campus. I served two years in Student Government as the Honors College senator and Speaker Pro Tempore. In my role as Speaker Pro Tempore of the FIU Senate, I worked on enhancing the student experience for over 54,000 students by having an unparalleled platform to advocate for issues affecting them such as college affordability, study spacing,??and sustainability.
I also was the marketing coordinator for FIU???s campus life division. I created and launched the campus-wide engagement newsletter. This task allowed me to understand the details of the individual campaign and to explore and uncover the advertising needs of my university. I learned that 64% of undergraduate students are commuters and receive their information through online media. I helped FIU build its online presence and grow the percentage of student engagement by 24%. In addition, I redesigned the FIU campus life Instagram page and established a new audience by increasing campus life???s reach and engagement from 41.7% to 92.1%.
I have excelled academically and as a leader throughout my time at FIU. I have been in the honors program for four years, apart of the dean???s list for consecutive semesters and have been inducted into the following honors societies: Order of Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Lambda Pi Eta. I will be graduating this semester Cum Laude.
What major are you studying and what future career goals do you have???
I am a public relations major. Essentially, I will develop and oversee the communication strategy that is required to deliver the appropriate message to the target audience on all media channels both digital and print. I plan on obtaining a master’s degree from Boston University in Media Ventures. I also want to work on my blog and make my passion into a profit.
How did DSA help prepare you for where you are now???
DSA was an amazing experience for me.
I was blessed with great teachers who pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to do more and take advanced courses.
I am grateful that professors like Mr. Biesterfield, Mr. Althoff, and Mrs. Troge challenged me to reach my fullest potential. One of the classes I will never forget was my 11th grade religion class taught by Pastor Carl. He taught profound lessons about the Apostle Paul and his work in the ministry from the book of Acts. To this day, I remember those lessons and apply them to my walk with God. I am also humbled and honored to have served in many leadership positions and to have been a part of the first graduating class.
Are there any other fun updates about your life/opportunities you’ve had that you’d like to share?
I launched a blog in 2016 titled Flourishing By Faith to help those around me thrive, grow, and fulfill their purpose in God. In just two years, the blog is set to launch its first segment titled “Flourish Girl Flourish.” This new element will highlight the stories of female entrepreneurs who have stepped out in faith and are now inspiring other globally to flourish.
I was also a semifinalist for the Google BOLD program. Out of 50,000 applications nationwide, I was chosen to be in the top 1,500 applicants, and I interviewed for Google.
I am also passionate about educating others about the benefits of using clean and safe products on themselves and their families every single day. I am creating a community where individuals embrace finding freedom, wholeness, and wellness by living toxin free through essential oils.
