Celebrate the Week of the Young Child in Doral!
By Shawna Mehlberg, Early Childhood Director, Divine Savior Academy
April 11th-16th has been designated as the ???Week of the Young Child??? by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This annual event is celebrated in cities and schools across the country, including Doral.
On February 3rd, 2016 the Mayor of Doral and the City Council approved the city-wide celebration and encouraged local schools to join in the festivities.
The NAEYC website describes the week-long event this way: ???The Week of the Young Child??? is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families.???
Themed days encourage hands-on and experiential learning for young children and their families. The focus of Music Monday is music-related activities, while Taco Tuesday explores healthy food, fitness, and cooking together with your child. Work Together Wednesday fosters the idea of cooperation and social skills. Artsy Thursday encourages creativity and the arts, and Family Friday celebrates the support our families give in the learning and development of young children.
Divine Savior Academy is celebrating the Week of the Young Child in cooperation with the City of Doral and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Early childhood students in PreK-1st grade will be doing special activities in the classroom and sharing these experiences with their families and the community of Doral through the school???s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.
Additionally, parents and students are being encouraged to attend two parenting workshops sponsored by the City of Doral:
