On Tuesday, October 13th, Divine Savior Academy???s Varsity Golf Team competed in the FHSAA Division 1A Golf Tournament and qualified to send individual members of the team to the Division 1A Regional Tournament, one of whom posted the lowest score of the tournament.

This is the team???s first trip to Regionals, but it is also the inaugural varsity golf season for Divine Savior Academy.?? What had been a club sport for two of the past three years has grown into team of seven golfers. Four students competed at the varsity level, and three were members of the junior varsity team.

The varsity team finished their regular season of match play undefeated in head-to-head competition. DSA featured the match medalist (lowest overall score) in all but 1 match during the season. The team of two boys and two girls consistently registered team scores under 170, and three of the four golfers posted a season average of 40 or lower.

On Tuesday, October 13th the varsity team competed in the FHSAA Division 1A District 23 Golf Tournament at Lago Mar Country Club. All four golfers finished in the top ten overall for their division. DSA students Marissa Mola and Alicia Cappellaro qualified to continue playing in the Division 1A Regional Tournament on Tuesday, October 20th at Crandon Golf Course.?? Cappellaro shot the lowest round of the tournament with a 2-under, posting a score of 70.

The varsity team will return all four players for next year???s season, and the coaching staff hopes to have enough participation that DSA could field a separate varsity girls and boys team beginning next year. With the opening of its new high school facilities this fall, that hope is well-founded as Divine Savior continues to grow.

???Doral is a community known for golf. Divine Savior itself sits across the street from Trump National???s Silver Fox Course, and we practice locally at Costa del Sol. It is so exciting for DSA to be able to compete in a sport that represents our city so well,??? comments Director of Golf Operations Ryan Kirchoff.

Divine Savior Academy is also moving cross country runners and its girls volleyball team into postseason play, and the winter sports seasons of basketball and soccer have officially begun.
