Each week in our chapel services our students gather an offering. This offering is then sent to a mission project. Last year, our students raised $10,000 for the Kuanda Square School in Africa. This year, DSA has chosen to send its chapel offerings to a new mission: Rock Children???s Home in Haiti.
Rock Children???s Home is an orphanage that serves children who were orphaned in the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. It is estimated that over 500,000 children were orphaned throughout Haiti, and there was not enough support or resources for these children. The founders of Rock Children???s Home explain:
???The government was shutting down three orphanages in the Jeremie area by the end of September 2013. After extensive conversations with the Social Affairs Department, we realized that there was no adequate plan in place for providing alternative housing for these children. Some would be released onto the streets, while others would be send to already overcrowded ???warehouse orphanages??? with over 200 children. This led us to open the Rock Children???s Home.
Shortly after opening the Children???s Home, we realized we were a part of something completely different than we had ever experienced. As we started to take in abandoned babies from the hospital, all of whom were severely malnourished, we realized we were living a miracle. We now have 22 children in our care.???
The goal of Rock Children???s Home is ???to not only provide the basic needs for these children (food, water, shelter, medical, and educational), but also to provide a loving, nurturing Christian environment.??? DSA???s chapel offerings will be given to this cause.
