College Financial Seminar Recap

By Tom Welch, Director of College Counseling

The college funding seminar at DSA this past Wednesday evening was well-received by all in attendance.?? Among the more interesting topics was discussion on tax-sheltered strategies.?? Some may prove quite helpful already NOW for DSA tuition payments.

Participants learned:

  • projected future college costs,
  • tax-advantaged ways to save for college,
  • the basics of financial aid, and
  • ways to fill the college funding??gap.

Parents, remember, even $50 per month now for young children will grow to significant levels by the time they are ready for college.?? Since you don???t know what grants and scholarships will be available when it???s time to start the application and admission process, you???ll want to consider:

  • Roth and Traditional Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)
  • 529 College Savings Plans
  • Coverdell Education Savings Accounts
  • Permanent life insurance
  • Uniform Gift or Transfer to Minors Act (UGMA/UTMA)
  • Trusts

Those unable to attend this year???s college funding workshop can look forward to another in October. ??If you want more information now, please contact our guest presenter:
