Drive along 58th Street in Doral this holiday season, and one building will stand out. It???s the building decorated with over 17,000 Christmas lights; the one with a large, red crane towering over a sprawling construction site.
That building is Divine Savior Academy. Home to Doral???s only private Christian school, DSA is humming with activity. From the twinkling lights at night to the construction by day to the over 600 students that attend its early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school programs, the school is not only a bustling place this holiday season, but the whole year round.
The week before the Thanksgiving holiday, faculty, staff, administrators, and their families gathered early on a Saturday morning to decorate palms and hedges with over 17,000 white lights. These lights are not just a decoration, but a celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Light of the world.
???Divine Savior looks forward to celebrating Christmas every year. We decorate our classrooms and our hallways, our lobbies and our church. Our students put on Christmas programs, plays, and recitals, as well as participate in the Doral Holiday Lights and Ice Show. We do this all because we are celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus, and we invite the community to join us,??? comments School Pastor and Superintendent Carlos Leyrer.
Divine Savior Academy is also excited to celebrate their new high school construction. The expansion will include a 3-story academic building, full-sized gymnasium, weight room, and locker rooms, as well as 4 tennis courts, a soccer/football field, and expanded parking. All in all, this building project will more than double the current size of DSA???s campus. It will be ready for the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
???It is an exciting time here at Divine Savior Academy. We are looking forward to our new high school expansion with great anticipation. It will not only benefit our high school students, but our whole campus, as well as the community of Doral,??? adds Head of Schools and High School Principal Ben Troge.
Divine Savior Church hosts a Christmas Eve service at 7pm on December 24th, as well as several programs throughout the month. Visit www.DivineSaviorAcademy.com for a full calendar of events, as well as information about the school???s PreK3-12th grade programs.
