Dear Parents and DSA Families,

The summer is almost gone, and the school year is quickly approaching. It is now time to begin preparations for the upcoming school year. The faculty is eagerly looking forward to the coming school year and the opportunity to help your child grow spiritually, academically, and physically.

This school year brings a number of changes to our school. We have reorganized and added additional administration, a third kindergarten and 1st grade homeroom, two new receptionists and seven new teachers.

One thing that will not change is the type of education your child will receive at DSA. Your children will continue to receive an age-appropriate, rigorous education in a safe and moral environment where they will be encouraged to use their God-given gifts to the best of their ability and where learning will be fun!

The following information is provided to better prepare you and your child for the 2014-2015 school year at Divine Savior. If after reading this letter, you still have questions, please feel free to call the school, and we will be happy to answer them.


  • There will be two back-to-school orientations this year: The first one will be for families with students in middle school and high school, and it will be on August 11 at 7:00 p.m.
  • NOTE:?? Parents, please be reminded that your attendance at this event is one of the parental requirements for the new DSA college planning program communicated to you last May during mandatory parent college planning meetings.?? For more information on DSA???s plan for compliance with Florida Senate Bill 1076, please contact Mr. Welch or Mrs. Jimenez, our two college counselors.
  • The second orientation night will be on August 12 at 7:00 p.m. for families with students in Pre-K through fifth grade.
  • After both orientations, parents and students will be invited to the classrooms where they will be introduced to the teacher and the class in which they were placed.
  • At the orientation you will receive information on school policies and procedures. You will also have the opportunity to visit with your child???s teacher and drop off school supplies.

It is good practice to take your child to the doctor for an annual physical. However, the State of Florida only mandates that students in kindergarten through twelfth grade, who are making their initial entry into a Florida school, present a record of a physical examination completed within the last twelve months. It is against the law for DSA to enroll your child without up-to-date vaccinations or an immunization record on file. Please make sure that your child???s vaccinations are current and he/she has received a physical, if necessary. Your child will not be allowed into school if the necessary steps have not been taken to comply with the state law.


The beginning stages for the construction of the new high school, gymnasium, soccer fields, tennis courts, additional parking spots, and playground has begun. With the exception of the excess rain, progress on the construction is going well. We fully anticipate being able to occupy the new building for the 2015-2016 school year. These are some exciting times!

That being said, returning parents will notice that the number of available parking spaces have been significantly reduced this year. We will try to create some additional parking spaces along 104th avenue, but by-and-large parking will be significantly reduced for this school year. Therefore, we are asking for your patience and cooperation during this construction period. Parents of students in grades 2-12 are asked to only drop-off and pick-up students at the designated times. More than likely, the opportunity to park and wait for your child to be released at the end of the day will not exist; so your cooperation during the construction period is appreciated.

To help alleviate the congestion at the beginning of the day, we are now allowing students to enter the school building starting at 7:30 a.m.


The 2014-2015 Elementary Handbook and Middle/High School Handbook are available online. I strongly encourage you to read the handbook with your child to make sure that all the policies and procedures are clear. Some things to especially note in the handbook: tardy policy, dress code, discipline code, absences, and finances.

Divine Savior Academy has a new school-wide newsletter called ???The Academy Dispatch.??? This newsletter comes in two editions released every Monday: one for Early Childhood/Elementary and one for Middle/High School. The newsletter contains pertinent information about school events, news items from our administration, and announcements about after-school activities. The Early Childhood/Elementary edition of the Academy Dispatch will be sent home with students every Monday and placed online at divinesavioracademy.com. The Middle/High School edition will be distributed via email, loaded onto student iPads, and placed online at divinesavioracademy.com.

Please look for and read this important new publication every Monday!

As we prepare for another year, I thank the Lord for the many blessings He has given Divine Savior, and I ask you to join me in asking for His blessings on the year at hand.
