On May 1, Divine Savior Academy is hosting its Shark Shootout golf tournament, an annual event that raises money for the school???s athletic programs. Hosted on the Jim McLean Signature Course at Trump National Doral, the tournament is a stone???s throw from Divine Savior Academy on 58th Street.

???We are pleased to host our annual golf tournament at the Jim McLean Signature Course. Not only is it just over the fence from our school, it???s in the heart of our community of Doral,??? says?? Principal Ben Troge.

Proceeds from the Shark Shootout benefit Divine Savior Academy???s youth athletic programs. As a preschool to 12th grade program, the school offers a wide range of athletic activities from elementary soccer to middle school archery to FHSAA competitions in high school volleyball, cross country, basketball, soccer, tennis, and track. Over 75% of DSA???s high school students participate in DSA???s varsity sports program. Administration is excited about high participation rates and growing programs, but the expansion of the athletic program calls for more equipment and expanded facilities.

Athletic Director Dan Unke comments, ???The cost of athletics is ever-rising, yet these programs are so important for our youth. Proceeds from this tournament support athletic teams, provide physical education and sports equipment, and aid in improving athletic programs.???

Everyone is welcome to attend the May 1st event. The itinerary begins at 7:00 a.m. with coffee and breakfast snacks at registration, followed by pre-round putting and hitting nets. The tournament itself kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and continues with a scramble tournament format.

After 18 holes on the Trump National Doral course, the day concludes with a post-round meal, awards, raffle prizes, and a silent auction at the Doral Park Country Club. Last year, silent auction items included a signed Chris Bosh jersey and Dolphins Club Live VIP tickets, along with golf clubs, apparel, and spa packages.

Registration is currently available online at, or at the DSA school office located at 10311 NW 58th Street in Doral. Participants can register as single players or foursomes, and businesses can participate as sponsors that receive advertising in event programs, on tee boxes, and on the DSA website. The business sponsor list neared 20 in 2012 and 30 in 2013 as the tournament continues to grow each year.

???The Shark Shootout is a great opportunity to come together as a community and as a school to support our youth. Not only is it a good cause, the tournament is a lot of fun!??? enthuses School Superintendent Carlos Leyrer.

Divine Savior Academy is the only private Christian school in Doral, Florida. The academy has over 550 students enrolled in Pre-K3 through twelfth grade. The school is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and is in the process of doubling the size of its campus with a stand-alone high school building and grounds. DSA has plans to break ground late this spring and open the new building for the 2015-2016 school year.
