This Christmas season, Divine Savior Academy is serving the City of Doral as a community drop site for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots toy drive. But the school isn???t just asking the community to donate toys for this program, families and students of the DSA are participating, too.
Our DSA National Honor Society has placed large, wrapped boxes outside of each classroom and invited students to bring new, unwrapped toys to place inside these donation boxes. All of the toys that are donated will be given to the??Toys for Tots toy drive.
The Toys for Tots program is coordinated and organized by members of the U.S. Marine Corps, but the program relies heavily on community involvement. According to its website (ToysforTots.org), the success of the program ???depends on the support of the local community and the generosity of the people who donate toys.??? Community businesses, churches, organization, and schools like Divine Savior Academy play a crucial role in the success of the Toys for Tots program.
To participate in the Toys for Tots toy drive, buy a new, unwrapped toy and donate it to the program. Send donations with students to place inside a classroom donation box or drop off donated toys in the DSA school or church office from 7:30am to 4:00pm on Monday through Friday, December 2nd to December 13th. Since the toy drive is being coordinated by the school???s National Honor Society, contact NHS advisor and Toys for Tots coordinator Kristina Troge with questions at 305-597-4545.
Divine Savior Academy has sponsored several ???giving??? events this year, including a school supply drive for a needy school in Antigua and a Thanksgiving Food Drive in cooperation with the Doral Police Department. Dean of Students Tim Biesterfeld, who coordinates many of the school???s charity drives, stresses the importance of teaching children philanthropy. ???Giving our students opportunities to help others is important. When they learn how to give, students discover the blessing of serving others. Donating toys or food is a simple task, but teaches our children invaluable lessons.???
Principal Troge adds, ???During the holidays, giving gifts to each other or donating to those in need reminds us of the incredible gift that was given to us on Christmas: our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so thankful that our students hear about that precious gift every day and are encouraged to spread His love to others.???
